History
October 24, 2022

Diwali, Deepavali or Divali, also known as the Festival of Lights, takes place around the Autumn new moon (northern hemisphere), which marks the passing of the darkest day of the year.

It originated as the festival symbolising victory of good over evil, light over darkness, and knowledge over ignorance. In the current world what the festival of lights really stands for is a reaffirmation of hope, a renewed commitment to friendship, religious tolerance, spreading the word of peace and harmony and above all, celebration of “simple joys of life”.

With a kaleidoscope of colors, delicious food, and the magic of fireworks and twinkling lights, Diwali is a truly magical holiday.

With the vast majority of people celebrating this festival around the world it was declared an official school holiday in New York City, local leadership announced Thursday.
